MCSA currently has ten select teams ranging in age groups from U10 through U19 boys and girls. The teams compete around Northern California, allowing local athletes to play youth soccer at a highly competitive level vs clubs from around the region. The 2019 playing year saw some exciting soccer played by our ten select teams.
These club teams compete throughout Northern California with half their league games played out of town. This is a very exciting opportunity for the players and a great way to help grow high-quality soccer players in our area.
In fact, the U12 girls' blue team recently returned from the prestigious Surf Cup in San Diego where they competed against teams from Los Angeles, Arizona, and Orange County. Our small rural team advanced all the way to the semi-finals game where they narrowly lost, 1-0. In addition, our U13 boys blue came away with the championship trophy at the Smash Cup in Redding and won their division. The experience and confidence gained from these kinds of exposure is priceless.
These young athletes are being trained both on and off the field. While playing 3 to 4 days a week and traveling on weekends for games, they are also required to show strong citizenship and academics. Our players are taught leadership, discipline, teamwork, commitment, and dedication. Furthermore, all of our players are taught the importance of physical activity which creates healthier lifestyle choices and promotes lifelong activity - all attributes that will help them to become better players, teammates, and people as they grow and develop.
Tryouts for our select teams will be in the spring of 2020.
